Parents can choose any certified Florida teacher with a current certificate to evaluate and/or test their child for their annual evaluation. There are 5 methods of this evaluation. You can click on the www.fpea.com site to find this information.

It is best to use a Florida certified teacher who has experience in doing Home School evaluations and testing. While your sister, brother, uncle, aunt, whoever, may be a Florida certified teacher, they may not be quite familiar with doing a Home School evaluation.

Many Home School evaluators have a short standardized test that they give during the evaluation; there is nothing the student can or needs to study for. This shows the parent a better reference point. There should be no need to sit for hours having the student do writing and reading during the evaluation. An hour, give or take, should do it.

It is best when the evaluator is familiar with Home Schooling and can direct you to some curriculum or resources if needed or desired. Bring a sampling of your child's work to the evaluation. You will find that most Home School evaluators are or have been Home Schooling parents also.

Home School group IOWA testing is also given by most of the Home School Support Groups. Keep checking their sites for the test dates; most are no earlier than March and no later than July.
