Kindergarten!! What do I do? Do I need books? curriculum? the whole day? ....
You can teach your child Kindergarten without any additional tools other than your knowledge and an hour or two a day!!! You have probably taught them so much by the time they turn five, maybe all that most do in Kindergarten! Do they know the letters of the alphabet? The sounds of the letters? Can they put some together as three letter words or more? Colors? Right and left? Can they print and or write their names? Can they explain how to brush their teeth or wash their hands if someone were to ask them? Do they know opposites - animal sounds - some compound words - how to count by 2, 5, 10? Do they recognize and write the numbers 1-10? What can they count to? Can they listen to a short reading and remember some of what they heard? Can they add/subtract simple numbers? Can they use the terms larger than, less than, longer than, more than? Can they tell the o'clocks to the hour? Do they know the terms whole and half? Maybe one fourth and one third? Do they know what a penny is and how much it is worth? maybe a nickel, dime , and quarter? Can they write double digit numbers? These are the basics of kindergarten in a nutshell!! Add the other activities such as drawing, sports, music, chores, and good character and you are all set!!! Each child develops at their own rate. These are only guidelines and goals. As long as you are striving for goals your child will attain them. You know your child best and you know what they can handle and when. Happy Homeschooling! :)
